Why I Became a Certified Sex Coach

Becoming a certified sex coach wasn’t something I planned—it was something that grew naturally out of my experiences and passions. After spending eight years in the sexual wellness industry, I came to see how deeply people struggled with shame, self-doubt, and connection in their sexual and emotional lives. I realized I wanted to do more than educate—I wanted to directly help people create lives that felt empowered, authentic, and fulfilling.

Starting in the Sexual Wellness Industry

Eight years ago, I began my journey in the sexual wellness industry as a producer for cinematic pornography. This role gave me a unique perspective on the diversity and complexity of human sexuality. I worked with talented professionals who were passionate about their craft and deeply invested in creating art that celebrated intimacy and desire in an authentic way.

Through my work, I witnessed firsthand the incredible variety of sexual expression and the beauty of connection in its many forms. Conversations with performers, directors, educators, and advocates became a regular part of my life. I learned so much from these open, honest exchanges about what it means to be sexual beings in a world that often stigmatizes and silences such discussions.

Outside the industry, I also became a sounding board for people’s thoughts and questions about sex. Maybe it was my openness, or maybe it was just that I was comfortable with the topic, but people loved talking to me about their experiences. They shared their insecurities, fears, and struggles, and it became clear to me how deeply misunderstood and underexplored sexuality is for so many.

Recognizing the Struggles

While my work celebrated the beauty and diversity of sexuality, I couldn’t ignore the fact that many people were struggling. I heard countless stories of shame—shame about desires, bodies, experiences, and even the idea of wanting more for themselves.

I saw how societal taboos around sex left people feeling disconnected and isolated. Many lacked the tools to communicate openly with their partners or to explore their desires in a way that felt safe and authentic. Others carried baggage from their upbringing, past relationships, or cultural expectations that made it hard for them to fully embrace who they were.

It became increasingly clear that sexuality wasn’t just about what happens in the bedroom—it was deeply tied to self-worth, confidence, and emotional well-being. The struggles people faced often spilled over into other parts of their lives, affecting their relationships, their mental health, and their ability to connect with others.

A Turning Point

As much as I loved and still love my work in the sexual wellness industry, I started to feel a pull toward something more personal. Producing content and having conversations about sexuality was fulfilling, but I wanted to have a more direct impact on people’s lives.

I began to think about how I could use my knowledge and experience to support people in a deeper way. How could I help them move past the shame and self-doubt that held them back? How could I empower them to embrace their sexuality as a vital, joyful part of their lives?

That’s when I decided to become a certified sex coach.

The Journey to Certification

Becoming a certified sex coach felt like a natural next step. It allowed me to combine my understanding of sexuality with practical tools for helping people create meaningful change. My training with Teach-Love Academy gave me the skills to support clients in exploring their desires, improving their relationships, and building a healthier, more confident sense of self.

As a coach, I don’t tell people what they should or shouldn’t do. Instead, I help them uncover what feels authentic and empowering for them. Whether they’re working through shame, learning to communicate more effectively, or exploring new aspects of their sexuality, my role is to provide guidance, support, and a safe space for growth.

What Keeps Me Inspired

One of the most rewarding parts of this work is seeing the transformation that happens when someone feels truly supported. It’s in the moments when a client lets go of their shame, learns to advocate for their needs, or discovers something new about themselves.

This work isn’t always easy—sexuality can be a vulnerable and complex subject—but it’s always worth it. Every person I work with reminds me why I started this journey and inspires me to keep going.

A Message to Anyone Who’s Struggling

f you’ve ever felt ashamed of your desires, disconnected from your body, or unsure of how to navigate your relationships, I want you to know you’re not alone. These feelings are more common than you might think, and they don’t have to define your story.

There’s so much freedom, joy, and connection to be found in embracing your sexuality. It’s not about being perfect or meeting someone else’s expectations—it’s about discovering what feels right for you and living in alignment with that truth.

Looking back on the past eight years, I’m so grateful for the journey that brought me here. Working in the sexual wellness industry taught me about the beauty and complexity of human sexuality. Becoming a certified sex coach has allowed me to take that knowledge and use it to make a direct, meaningful impact on people’s lives.
